Disney announced Wednesday that its record-breaking Marvel blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame" will be rereleased in China on Sept. 25, the Mid-Autumn Festival, injecting fresh momentum into the Chinese film market and setting the stage for "Avengers: Doomsday" in December.

The rerelease comes seven years after the original film's phenomenal run. Titled "Avengers: Endgame Encore," it will include never-before-seen footage offering audiences an exclusive early look at "Avengers: Doomsday" and previewing the reunion of the original cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth.
Downey, who launched the first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with "Iron Man," will play the villain Doctor Doom in the new film. Heroes from the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts will also assemble across universes for the showdown. "Avengers: Doomsday" will hit screens worldwide in December.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, "Avengers: Endgame" was the grand conclusion to the first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film picks up after the events of "Avengers: Infinity War," as the Avengers unite to take one final stand against Thanos.
It set a string of box office records. Upon its 2019 release, it grossed about $1.2 billion globally on its opening weekend, a record that still stands unbroken, and nearly $2.8 billion in total, ranking second all-time behind James Cameron's "Avatar."
In China, it set a presale record of 700 million yuan ($104 million), passed 100 million yuan in 10 hours and finished with 4.25 billion yuan, topping the imported film chart for more than six years. It now ranks second to Disney's own animated feature "Zootopia 2," which took 4.59 billion yuan in 2025.
"2019 was a very long time ago. The world's a different place," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said at San Diego Comic-Con in July. "But reminding all of us what it was like to be in that theater, cheering along and enjoying that crazy enthusiasm, is why we're rereleasing 'Avengers: Endgame' on Sept. 25."
Marvel's summer tentpole "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has grossed more than $2.22 billion worldwide, including 1.5 billion yuan in China, breaking a number of records set by "Avengers: Endgame." The rerelease, which also opens the same day in other territories, could reclaim some of those marks while channeling momentum toward "Avengers: Doomsday."
"Avengers: Endgame Encore," imported by China Film Group, will screen in several formats, including IMAX, during the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays, a peak season for the industry running Sept. 25-27 and Oct. 1-7.
Viewing events and Mid-Autumn-themed "Avengers" installations will roll out across multiple cities, where fans can relive the "Endgame" moment in theaters and pose for photos at the displays. Select theaters will also feature special programming where people can share their memories and stories of being Marvel fans over the years.
